  • What is a domain name?

  • A domain name is a unique alpha-numeric name used to identify a particular computer (i.e. web server or mail server) on the Internet. Domain names allow Internet users to type in a name, such as mybrand.com, to identify a numeric address such as 209.67.50.203. The purpose of domain names is to allow ordinary users connected to the Internet to find web sites and send email to addresses with familiar names such as "mybrand.com" without having to memorize the numerical addresses that actually locate the computers or servers on the Internet.

  • What is the best TurnKey Mail service plan for me?

  • Every business has unique needs and we have put together a guideline and
recommendations page which should help you determine the right package.

  • What is a Dedicated Server?

  • Dedicated Servers are physical computers that are setup and maintained by TurnKey Internet in one of the TurnKey
Data-Centers. You have your own physical computer, dedicated to your business - your own private hard drive, cpu, memory, and direct bandwidth connection to the Internet via the TurnKey next-generation fiber-optic network. You have complete root access to install and configure the server to your needs, and unlimited potential to add more domain names, web sites or other features. Dedicated servers include a built in Firewall Security system with the TurnKey Real Time Firewall Monitor software. All dedicated servers include custom intrusion detection software, 24x7 system and performance monitoring, secure remote backups, advanced web statistic reports, detailed system reports and the easy to use Server Control panel. Dedicated servers come with large volumes of monthly bandwidth, over 1,000 GigaByte of monthly usage on some billing plans!

  • No. between hardware and software costs, plus staffing costs to maintain internal mail servers you will spend as much as 10 times more than a fully managed private TurnKey Mail server. This cost doesn't even take into account the typical down time and lost email/sales associated with hosting a mail server outside a carrier grade
Data-Center. TurnKey Mail provides 24 x 7 monitoring, service and support to ensure your email communications are consistent and secure at all times. TurnKey Mail servers automatically upgrade and provide the latest Spam, Virus and Denial of Service protection on an hourly basis. Trying to keep in house systems up to date requires full time administration staff with high budget salaries. NOTE: Dedicated TurnKey Mail Server customers will access the TurnKey Server Administration Panel, and access the Email Manager interface for adding domains.

  • How do I configure my domain name to work with TurnKey Mail Service?

  • Once you have configured your account for a specific domain name for email service, you need to make sure your domain name is configured to utilize the TurnKey Mail servers. This is done through specific domain name configurations, called MX (Mail eXchange) records. When you purchase a domain name, through a registrar, you typically have access to a specific control panel where you can configure your domain name. You will need to configure your domain name to have 1 MX record (i.e. delete any existing ones) that reads:

    MX 10 mail.turnkeymail.com

Once you make this configuration change, your email will begin to flow to your TurnKey Mail account (please allow up to 24 hours for any DNS changes to take full effect). If you purchased your domain name through TurnKey Internet, then your domain is already configured for the TurnKey Mail service, and you can skip this step.

NOTE: Dedicated TurnKey Mail Server customers will actually utilize a different MX record, depending on their domain name. For instance, if your private server is named "mail.abc.net" then you would configure all domains that use your Dedicated TurnKey Mail Server for the following MX record:

    MX 10 mail.abc.net

You can also use PuTTY: (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/), and SecureCRT: (http://www.vandyke.com/products/securecrt).

  • What if I want to upgrade my Service Plan?

  • You can upgrade at any time to a higher level Service Plan. Those utilizing the TurnKey Mail service can upgrade to any other service plan at any time without cost. Those on private dedicated TurnKey Mail servers can upgrade to higher end dedicated servers which provide more ram, cpu, disk space and bandwidth (all applicable setup and service fees do apply). upgrade certain components of your server (such as more disk, memory or specific value add services like remote backups and dedicated hardware firewalls).
